Lake Tahoe Winter Training

Members of Coast Guard Auxiliary Sierra Division 11 often train with active duty Coast Guard personnel at Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe. On Saturday, December 6th, 2008, despite the winter cold, Auxiliarists (Front row from left) Jim Kremsner, Jack Leth, and Pat Walter along with Tom Komadina (second from left in back row) practiced towing vessels in side tow as well as long tow. Four Coast Guard personnel from Station Tahoe participated in the training. They are (front row from the right) Fireman Leah Gregory, Seaman Madison Gallentine, (back row from the right) BM1 "JJ" Kinstrey and (back row, left) BM2 Graham Potter.

Although most boating is done during the summer, safe boating knows no season. The four flotillas conduct operations all year. Reno Flotilla 3 performs many safety patrols at Pyramid Lake during winter months at the heighth of the Lahontan Cutthroat fishing season. North Shore Flotilla 1 and South Shore Flotilla 4 conduct activities at Lake Tahoe during the winter as well.
Division 11 Operations Officer, Jack Leth, has been instrumental in organizing training activities with Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe.
Members of the Sierra Division of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and personnel from Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe conducted joint training exercises on December 6th at Lake Tahoe. Although the day was cold, the skies were clear and the waters flat. These were perfect conditions to practice the long and side tows so important in search and rescue activities.
